What is ADHD Coaching?
An ADHD Coach has specific training on how ADHD can impact children and adults. They are experienced in working with clients with ADHD to develop strategies enabling them to reach their full potential. Armed with the latest research and most effective strategies for working with the variety of challenges presented by ADHD, an ADHD coach is uniquely prepared to work with clients who have ADHD and related executive function disorders. ADHD Coaching is supportive and goal-oriented. The ADHD Coach works with the client to develop strategies and systems that maximize the individual strengths of the ADHD brain. The coach comes into the coaching relationship with the firm belief that the client is whole, not broken or in need of being fixed. Clients typically come into coaching seeking help with the individual difficulties or challenges they are experiencing. The coaching process helps individuals with ADHD to develop the systems necessary to meet these challenges.

The individuals who benefit from ADHD Coaching are committed to taking action and fully participate in the coaching process. They have a strong desire for personal growth and are motivated to see real improvement in their lives. They are also open to having their coach offer new perspectives and viewpoints. If you aren’t ready to do the work, you are not ready for coaching.
What can you expect from ADHD Coaching?
ADHD Coaching, like all coaching, is a client-driven process. You will find that coaching has a very conversational feel. In the beginning of the coaching process I will learn about your goals and the challenges that are getting in your way of reaching them. Together we will develop strategies, which will be designed to meet your specific needs. During each coaching session I will:
1) Celebrate successes you have had since our last session
2) Check in on your progress on previous session goals
3) Establish the focus for that session
4) Explore with you options and possibilities
5) Create a plan with structures in place for accountability
6) Confirm your commitment to the plan
How long does coaching last?
While the length of coaching varies greatly from person to person, most experienced coaches know from experience that to see real progress, establish lasting routines or to achieve goals, it requires a minimum of a 3-month or more commitment. For true long-term changes a 6 or 12-month commitment may be needed.
How do I get started?
ADHD Coaching begins with a free 30-minute coaching session/consultation. I will answer your questions, learn a bit about where ADHD is presenting challenges in your life, and learn about your goals. This free session gives both the client and the coach the opportunity to see if working together will be beneficial. You are under no obligation to hire me following this free session. If we decide together that coaching would be a good fit, we can take the easy steps to getting started!
Do you coach in person or over the phone?
If you live in the Raleigh area and would like to be coached in person, we will find a time to meet in my office. However, since coaching is often done over the phone, a lot of my coaching is done this way. Phone coaching is extremely convenient for the client. There is no need to worry about your appearance. You can come to coaching in your Sunday best or in your PJs – whatever helps you feel most comfortable and ready for coaching! Phone coaching also lessons distractions that can be found in an unfamiliar environment, so you can focus on the work at hand. Because the only required equipment is a phone, you can chose the location where you have the privacy you want and are most relaxed. You will call (or, if you would like to Skype instead, we can do that!) me at the appointed time- making sure you are in a place that you are able to focus and be fully present for the coaching session. I will provide a form for you to complete before each session to help you get focused on what it is you want to work on that day.
How much will it cost?
I offer several coaching packages that range from monthly or quarterly commitments to group sessions for adults, parents or students. One to one coaching sessions for students typically last 30-40 minutes and for adults, 50 minutes, and take place weekly. If you are interested, we can discuss these options during your free coaching session.
